Suicide Guidance:
The Risk Assessment form contains a question which relates to whether the victim is actively experiencing thoughts of suicide. If this information is not voluntarily provided by the victim, they should be asked directly and straightforwardly whether they are currently having thoughts of suicide. This is to immediately identify any severe risk to personal safety and enables the appropriate agency to implement a safety plan.
- If the answer to this question is YES, the victim should be told to make an urgent appointment with their GP and given the following phone numbers/contact information:
Samaritans: Call 116 123 (24/7)
Campaign Against Living Miserably (CALM): Call 0800 58 58 58 – 5pm to midnight every day
Papyrus – for people under 35: Call 0800 068 41 41 – 9am to midnight every day Text 07860 039967 Email pat@papyrus-uk.org
SOS Silence of Suicide: Call 0300 1020 505 – 4pm to midnight every day Email support@sossilenceofsuicide.org
If you feel the individual is at immediate risk of harm from suicide and you are communicating via the telephone then you should attempt to keep the person on the telephone and ask a colleague to log a welfare call with West Mercia Police by calling 101. Where this is not possible or the individual terminates the call a welfare call should still be logged and attempts made to call the individual back.
This only relates to people who are currently experiencing thoughts of suicide.
